Music is a universal language that connects people across the globe. Music has had a deep impact throughout the history of civilization on people and maybe even prior to that. A lot many forms of music have been developed through the ages but essentially music remains true to its roots.

Two basic types of music are vocal and instrumental. Both types are further classified into different genres. Each genre has a lot of sub-genres, sometimes so many that it is difficult to keep a track of all the sub-genres. The basic genres in music are Art Music, Popular Music, Traditional and Fusion.

Art music contains classical music, some contemporary music as well as certain forms of Jazz. Popular music or pop-music is a very broad genre that includes blues, rock, jazz and many such types of music. Most of the music that we come across falls in the category of pop music. Traditional music is what used to be called folk music. Fusion is not actually a genre but any music that combines two or more genres or sub-genres is termed as Fusion.
