HIP HOP- TOMORROW’S BIG THING?
The music industry is dying out. Every year the number of records sold goes down by a drastic number. Since last year, record sales have dropped by twenty percent. So now the question is which bands or more importantly which genre of music is the next big thing.
For rock bands, touring and merchandising will become more important than ever. They will eventually be begging people to download their music for free as long as they attend the live shows and buy their merchandise.
However the one genre that has the better suited to survive this new industry fallout is hip hop. Every now and then it is very common for a rapper to appear in commercials and come out with his own sneakers. For example; Reebok paid a lump sum for the pairing of 50 Cent and Jay-Z and Boost Mobile did the same with Kanye, Ludacris, and The Game. Musicians in other genres have to walk a fine line of art and commerce so they don’t offend their fan base. However, in hip-hop, the number of endorsements you score is part of your marketing plan.
